Woman fights off sex attacker in Crawley


Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman fought off a man who sexually assaulted her in Crawley.

The victim was walking through Goffs Park between 2.30am and 3.30am on Saturday (March 28) when the man pushed her to the ground and tried to force himself on her.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said the woman suffered cuts and bruises before fighting off the man and fleeing onto the A23 close to the Gossops Green traffic lights where a passing motorist raised the alarm.

PC Jim Lee said: “We would like to speak to anyone who saw anything suspicious or heard any shouting in the area between the cemetery and the A23 in the early hours of Saturday morning.

“If you know anything at all, please contact us.”

A 22-year-old man from Crawley has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault. He was questioned before being released on bail until May 3.
