Woodpecker sculpture worth hundreds of pounds stolen from Crawley park

A woodpecker sculpture (pictured) worth hundreds of pounds has been stolen from Buchan Country Park in Crawley.

It was reported missing on April 28.

Park ranger Simon Rowledge said Friends of Buchan Country Park volunteers worked hard to raise funds to buy it.

He said: “It affects all the staff, tens of thousands of local people who come and use the park every year - the sculpture was there for all of them.

“We take pride in having nice things in the park and when some mindless person destroys it, it’s very disheartening.”

Mr Rowledge said the sculpture was removed from the log roughly and may have been discarded.
