The county council will carry out improvement works to traffic signals on Southgate Avenue.
A spokesman said waiting times at two busy junctions will be shorter outside peak hours after the new technology is installed.
Temporary three-way signals and some lane narrowing will be in place during the works at the Hawth Avenue junction between Tuesday, July 14 and Thursday, July 16; and the Southgate Drive junction, between Monday, July 20 and Wednesday, July 22.
Similar works are planned for the Tilgate Way and Ashdown Drive junctions in September.
A spokesman said: “Once installed, the new technology will be more reactive to traffic approaching the junction.
“Outside peak times, this will prevent vehicles waiting when there is no opposing traffic.”
