Workshop reveals the value of volunteering

Then a workshop in Littlehampton could be the answer.

Volunteer Now! is holding an Introduction to Volunteering workshop on Wednesday, March 26, from 10am-1.30pm, at Dove Lodge, Beach Road.

The session will guide people through the process of becoming a volunteer, explore the skills they already have to offer, and new ones they would like to gain, and discover the opportunities to become involved in voluntary work in the area.

Our weekly focus on volunteering opportunities in the area this week includes a call for helping hands from the Arun West Children and Family Centres.

Volunteers are needed at the Villages Centre, in Yapton, and in Felpham and Bognor, all of them one-stop shops where families with children aged under five can take advantage of a range of services including information and advice, drop-in play and learn groups, toy library, parenting support and health services including child health clinics, midwife clinics, speech and language drop-ins.

The centres are particularly keen to recruit parent volunteers, who may want to share their skills and at the same time benefit from training and explore new career ideas.

Other duties include serving on the reception desk, welcoming, signing in and registering families, responding to queries and suggesting where they could find help, where necessary, as well as supporting them during their time there and general office duties.

The Aldingbourne Trust wants to recruit volunteers to help run its ‘Top’ building, where people with learning difficulties are given the support they need in serving at the tea/coffee point. In some cases this will mean helping them to make a drink. The volunteer would also be required to ensure the building is kept clean and the tables are wiped, and to act as a contact point for support staff.

The volunteer needs to be able to commit to volunteering for 4.5 hours for the day they are on duty.
