With reference to your article ‘Scheme will transform patient care’, I was very pleased to hear that nurses at East Surrey Hospital will be spending more time with their patients.
Mr Wilson (chief executive of SASH) said that 90 per cent of the nurses’ time will now be spent looking after their patients.
The last time I went to East Surrey as a patient in an ambulance was some time ago.
I was seen straight away. The care I received by all the staff there was brilliant.
Unfortunately, it went downhill when I was left on a trolley for six hours waiting for a bed to be admitted to a ward.
I was left on a trolley that I couldn’t get out of and the curtains pulled round me so i couldn’t get anyone’s attention.
I could hear nurses rushing past me but none of them had time to stop and check I was OK.
I don’t think East Surrey Hospital has got ‘too big to care’. It has just got too big!
I recently took a member of my family along to Crawley Urgent Treatment Centre and was pleased to see how much it has been improved.
All the staff that we saw were brilliant and did all they could to help.
The doctor we saw went out of his way to get the blood results up to ESH and back to us by the evening.
Although he was very busy he phoned us up that evening to give us the results.
Why isn’t blood checked at Crawley Hospital any more?
We really do need to bring back more procedures like this to Crawley Hospital so that our Urgent Treatment Centre can take some of the pressure off ESH A&E and treat Crawley patients locally.
