I can’t help feeling those who built Tilgate Park in Crawley during the 70s and 80s had a greater wisdom, balance and concern which we can only aspire to in 2015.
Because of a very small plaque hidden away at the top of the hill by the Ginkgo Tree, which reads:
“Remember Hiroshima.1945. Humanity. Justice. Peace. 1970”
And because of another slightly bigger plaque hidden away at the bottom of the hill in the Peace Gardens, which reads:
“VJ Day 15 August 1945. 50th Anniversary. To commemorate all those who fought bravely and who suffered and sacrificed so much in South East Asia and the Pacific, to bring a lasting peace to the world. Their names live for evermore”
