I am writing to let your readers know about a free support event run by Diabetes UK. The ‘Living with Diabetes Day’ will take place in Crawley at the Crowne Plaza London, Gatwick Airport on 15 October. 6,200 people are estimated to have Type 2 diabetes in Crawley.
This one-day event is designed for people who have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in the last few years or those needing the basic information on how to manage the condition. Knowledge is power and understanding diabetes is the first step towards tackling it. If managed properly, people with diabetes can go on to live long and healthy lives and these events are an important way of helping people to get their Type 2 diabetes under control.
Improving people’s understanding of the condition and how to look after themselves will not only help improve their day-to-day health, but will also help them to avoid serious complications in the long-term. Kidney failure, blindness, amputation, stroke and heart disease are all associated with diabetes if it is not managed well, so it is crucial that people know what they can do, and what support they can expect from their healthcare teams, to avoid these and stay healthy.
Throughout the day, people will be given information they need to help them start taking control of their condition so they can enjoy a healthy life.
Healthcare professionals will provide information on local healthcare and the services available to people with Type 2 diabetes in the area.
Experts will give workshops on the practical elements of living with Type 2 diabetes, such as diet, exercise, medication, travel and driving.
There are limited places at the’ Living with Diabetes Day’ in Crawley those interested in attending the event must register online at www.diabetes.org.uk/lwdd or email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 0345 123 2399.
