LETTER: Still time to recycle your surplus paint

There is still time for homeowners in Crawley to clear surplus paint from sheds, garages and cupboards as part of an innovative Crown Paints recycling scheme.

Stacks of old paint and containers are pouring in to the Crown Decorating Centre on Cobham Way as householders Kick Out The Can, do their bit for the environment and recycle the unwanted containers.

Now in its fourth year, the campaign has collected more than 30,000 thousand tins of unwanted paint across the UK since its launch in 2013. Last year was its most successful yet with more than 9,000 containers handed in.

The paint collected in-store is re-processed by social enterprise company Nimtech and then donated to community projects. The scheme has seen more than 2,000 litres of paint given to scores of deserving schemes right across the UK.

Leftover plastic and metal paint containers are also recycled as part of the scheme.

Kick Out The Can is growing in popularity every year and we’re delighted that people are taking the opportunity to do some good for the environment by recycling their unwanted paint.

Such is its appeal that we’ve extended the scheme into a third week this year, and to thank people for helping make it such a success everyone who brings in their unwanted paint receives a 20 per cent discount voucher which they can use in-store until the end of the year.

Householders can return up to ten containers of any decorative paint to their nearest Crown Decorating Centre on any single visit up to April 18th.

Paint must be in the original container with the lid securely attached and no foreign objects or substances in the cans. Aerosols and rusty cans cannot be accepted.

Alternatively, text ‘CROWN’ to 83332 to have the details of your nearest store sent straight to your mobile. Texts cost one standard message rate.
