Youth Council rally for cycle path

YOUTH Council members were joined by over two hundred cyclists and supporters in their campaign for a cycle path last Sunday.

They council want a cycle path along Bexhill seafront, in line with those in Hastings and Eastbourne.

The town is currently described as the 'missing link' in the National Cycle Network, which aims for continual tracks along the South East coastline.

The rally followed the no-cycling rules and walked bikes along the promenade to Cooden Beach from Galley Hill.

Chairperson Melissa Freeman hopes the initial interest in the campaign will mean further cycle tracks are a possibility across Bexhill.

She said: "We were really pleased with the turn out as the weather wasn't in our favour. We are just hoping people will continue to support us in any more events we hold for this cause."

Petitions showing support for the cycle track can be found in local schools.

The Brooks family from Hastings showed their support in cycling the 12 mile round trip. An older woman walking a dog was carrying a placard which read "Pensioners cycle too!".

The Youth Council are organising an open forum to discuss possible routes but a date is yet to be confirmed.
