4x4? That's the size of vehicle Arun gymnasts need for their medals

The competition, attended by 13 Sussex clubs, was split into several age and ability categories with the under-eights competing over three events and the over-eights over four.

Competing in the six-year-old key step girls’ group were Abigail Holmes, Olivia Pinchbeck and Signe Zaikovska.

Abigail had a brilliant first place in body movement and third on floor to pick up overall silver. Olivia and Signe were second equal in body movement and fourth and sixth overall.

In the key step seven-year-old category, competing for Arun in the first group were Georgina Reynolds and Kseniya Kagarova. Kseniya’s fantastic floor routine gave her second place and she followed it with an excellent first in body movement that secured the overall gold. Georgina was second in body movement, finishing sixth overall.

The other group featured Olivia Hepburn, who finished with a well-deserved bronze after a wonderful first place in body movement and fourth on floor and vault.

In the intermediate groups, the medals kept coming for Arun. In the eight-nine year group Gemma Payne won a bronze on vault, silver on beam and overall bronze. Daisy Donoghue’s best performance came on the bars and she finished 11th overall.

The 10&11 year old group saw Emily Day win a further four medals with excellent performances gaining her silver on vault and beam, bronze on floor and overall silver.

In the 12-14-year-olds group, Sophie Haines earned bronze for her strong bars routine and was third overall.

At the start of the novice groups, Arun had Lucy Aldred among the eight-year-olds and she finished in 15th, with her best result a tenth on vault. In the nine-year-olds, Lucy Ansell’s superb Vault gave her a gold medal and a lovely floor routine earned her silver and helped her to fifth overall. Daisy Maxwell put in nice performances that saw her finish eighth.

Arun’s remaining nine gymnasts rose to the challenge beautifully in the final round, earning a further 21 medals.

Chloe Golding and Amelia Freeman were among the novice girls aged ten, and Amelia got the medal tally moving with a bronze for her vault helping her to eighth overall. Chloe’s more consistent four pieces saw her finish fifth.

Arun’s best performance of the day came in the age 11 novice category with Jenna Partridge’s beautiful floor and steady beam routines earning her two golds. A bronze for her bars clinched her the overall gold.

Rebecca Roberts was also consistent and took a creditable bronze for floor and overall sixth.

In the 12-14-year-old novice girls, Arun had Jasmine Green, Rebecca Williamson, India Clark and Zara Daniels battling to get on the podium.

On floor Arun took a clean sweep with Zara winning gold, India silver and Jasmine bronze. On the vault Jasmine won a bronze and on bars India won bronze. But on beam there were another three medals for Arun, with Jasmine winning gold and Rebecca and Zara a bronze each.

In the overall competition Jasmine took the silver and India bronze, Rebecca finishing fifth with Zara sixth.

In the 15-plus age group, Abigail Ockwell boosted Arun’s medal tally further with an excellent silver for her beam routine and three bronzes for floor, bars and vault helping secure her overall bronze.

The fantastic displays meant the final medal tally for Arun was 35 with seven gold, nine silver and 19 bronze – showing all the hard training is worthwhile.
