Archery; Chichester's Champion lives up to his name

While the July weather may have been a washout, Chichester Bowmen cleaned up in competitions throughout the month.

Stuart Champion of Chichester Bowmen became the Kent county disabled champion.

Shooting a western round of four dozen arrows with his compound bow at 60 yards and four dozen at 50 yards, Champion notched a fantastic score of 844 out of 864. This was more than 100 points above the score of last year’s champion.

In the pouring rain at Hazlewick School in Crawley during the Sussex championships, Julie Pede with her compound bow won the ladies’ FITA (International Archery Federation) match of 12 dozen arrows (three dozen each at 70m, 60m, 50m and 30m). Pede scored 1257 out of 1440.

In the gentlemen’s FITA match shot at 90m, 70m, 50m and 30m, John Foley came third with his compound bow, scoring 1293 (ex 1440). Their combined scores won the mixed pairs event.

The following day saw Pede take second place in the ladies’ Hereford round (80 yards, 60 yards and 50 yards) for the Sussex County Championship, scoring 1172 (ex 1296).
