Bognor swimmer masters being a golden girl

BOGNOR'S Clare Willison scooped four medals at the British Gas ASA Masters Swimming Championships in Sheffield.

At the last major event in the 2011 Masters swimming calendar, she swam in the 200m individual medley (55-59 age group) where she picked up gold, the 50m butterfly, in which she took another gold, the 100m individual medley (silver) and the 100m freestyle (bronze).

All her times were PBs and she was particularly pleased by her 200 IM display, where she took ten seconds off her time of 2010.

Willison is ranked No1 in GB this year in the 50m fly and 50m freestyle long course for her age group, and her showing in Sheffield will make her No1 in the 200IM and 50m fly short course.

Sussex Martletts won two golds in the women’s 240-plus 200m freestyle, and the women’s 240-plus 400m freestyle, both of which Willison swam in.

She trains at Bognor SC, coached by Sue Eason, and swims at Westgate in Chichester, set by her personal trainer Glen Christiansen. Willison will pick up again early in 2012, with her sights on the worlds in Riccione in June.
