Crawley Town sign defender on loan

CRAWLEY Town have signed Oxford United defender Chris Carruthers as Evans tries to address his growing injury list.

Carruthers, 26, has previously played for Football League clubs Northampton and Bristol Rovers.

Regular defenders Adam Quinn, Chris Giles and Simon Rusk are all nursing injuries and all missed Saturday's 1-1 draw at home to Grays Athletic, and another defensive player, Glenn Wilson, went off with a hamstring injury.

And left-back Sam Rents will soon also be unavailable when he travels with the England C squad to Budapest take on Hungary on September 15.

Another move to sign a central defender fell through late on Friday but the Carruthers deal was agreed in time for him to play for Town at the weekend.

He came on in place of Charles Ademeno after 22 minutes and nearly scored within 11 minuites when he forced a top class save from visiting keeper Preston Edwards.
