Bridges lose opening game despite bowlers

Bridges suffered a 46-run defeat in their opening league game of the season at home to Ansty.

Captain Tom Blandford said: “Bridges will need vast improvements in their batting if they hope to get promoted.

“Their bowling and fielding looks impressive however with Vic Davies, Matt Blandford and Mike Rose forming a potent attack.”

Rose and Davies took 4-48 and 4-61 respectively. The visitors lost the toss and were asked to bat first.

Harry Towler and James Whybrow opened and saw the score to 56 before Whybrow was caught for 31. Towler went soon after for 22 and the score at 68.

New signing Lucas Barker looked useful for his 11 but top scorer was Jethro Menzies with 37. Leo Anderson scored 17 before being bowled and Sam Palser was not out 11 at the fall of the last wicket with the total on 148 after the start they had.

Bridges’ reply started poorly, losing two wickets with the score on three. Two more fell at 32 but Danny Alderman (27) was holding the innings together. However Alderman fell, caught off the bowling of overseas player Jake Wilson.

Finally Sam Palser mopped up the tail with 5-13 off 3.5 overs. Wilson ended with 4-53 as Ansty dismissed Bridges for 102.
