Three Bridges Cricket Club have voted Mark Church to skipper the side ahead of the new campaign.

Danny Alderman, last year’s captain, stepped down recently and it will now be Church who leads the side.

Church, who was skipper of the second team last season, is looking forward to the test and said: “I’m very excited about the opportunity that I have been given.

“We have a great bunch of lads in terms of both talent and commitment and I am sure we can all pull together to become an excellent side in this Division.

“It’s a challenge that I am really looking forward to but I know the standard of opposition will be a lot stronger than what I faced with the second team.

“There were some very strong teams that we faced last season but this is a step up again.

“Most of the side that were in the first-team I have captained in the second’s as they have come through the ranks.”

Three Bridges were relegated from the Sussex Premier League Division in 2014 and will ply their trade in the Sussex League Division 2 in April.

And Church believes his side have all the capabilities to win promotion and get back into the Sussex Premier League.

He added: “The aims for us next year are pretty simple and it is to win promotion back to the Premier League and continue to build on the good work that Danny Alderman done during his time as captain.

“I have absolutely no doubt that we have a side capable of winning promotion and the fact so many clubs are interested in our players just shows me what quality we have.

“We won promotion from this league just two years ago with a side that was very similar in terms of names but had much less experience.

“If all goes well than I am sure we will have a really good year but we must be aware of the fact that this time around Division 2 will have a number of stronger teams than when we were last in it.”

Atif Elahi replaces Church as the second team skipper with Tom Blandford vice-captain. Mark Dunford takes over from Chris Brightwell as third team skipper. Liam Barrett will be his vice-captain. Luke Johnson (c) and Iain Roe (vc) will take over the reigns of the promoted fourth team while Dave Evans and Neil Sadler will be captain and vice-captain respectively of the fifth team.
