Sussex openers Chris Nash and Ed Joyce extended their opening stand to 136 when Joyce, on 69, drove at a ball from Wayne White well outside off stump he could have left alone and was caught behind, after nearly three-and-a-half hours at the crease.
Matt Machan (13) got a thin edge off an mis-timed hook at Charlie Shreck but Nash was closing in on his second century of the season at lunch, reaching 82 not out at the break having reached a three-hour fifty.

Hide AdMachan fell on 164 and Ross Taylor (13 not out) helped Nash get Sussex through to lunch on 190 for 2, still 120 short of making Leicestershire bat again.
