Crawley Eagles gain thrilling one-wicket win after Imran Mehboob takes 4-4

Imran Mehboob took incredible figures of 4-4 from 10 overs as Crawley Eagles gained a narrow one-wicket win in a see-saw battle at Ansty.

He was ably supported by Fazlan (3/18) who was turning the ball a square mile, along with Hamid Raiz (2/12) and Atif Ali (1/20).

Ansty recovered from a disastrous start before being eventually bowled out for 105 thanks to Tom Woodhall who top scored with 29 from a 133 balls and Sam Palser 23.

In reply Eagles had in fact started briskly and were cruising at 72-2 but then as Hamid (27) and Rehan (20) attempted to finish the match in quick time they got out and the Eagles bating line collapsed under the duress of fine bowling from the Ansty spinners Leo Anderson (4-22) and Glen Anson (3/30).

However, Sardar Anjum with a composed innings of 16 not out and last-man Adil Mustapha (7) ensured that Eagles maintained their winning start.

Eagles captain Imran Suddahazai said: “The most important thing at this stage is to grind out the results. The point is that we need to learn to win and last year we probably would have lost this match.”

Eagles welcome Haywards Heath CC 1st XI to Cherry Lane on Saturday hoping to continue the winning start.
