Horley v Chaldon

Horley’s first team won in emphatic style at home against Chaldon in the Surrey Championship Challenge Cup.

In a game that only took two hours to complete, Horley bowled out their opponents for 63, mainly due to superb opening spells by skipper Charlie Robins and new-ball partner Ben Davies, the latter taking his best figures for the club, 5-15 from his eight overs.

Robins claimed three wickets, two in the first over.

Horley’s reply carried on their momentum, with in-form Ben Remfry breezing to 35 not out. Richard Waddington backed up Remfry and the win puts Horley third in the Challenge Cup Group Seven table and this weekend they host Warlingham, who are bottom.

Wallington v Horley 2nd

Horley seconds won an exciting game at Wallington as Matt Ware made his highest score of 94.

Horley put Wallington into bat in this Surrey Championship Challenge Cup match and the hosts made 212-6 from 40 overs.

Darren Croft took 2-16 and Naveed Sherwani 3-39, including two batsmen bowled in consecutive balls, while Dave Childs took a wicket.

Horley’s reply was superbly paced as they reached the target of 213 off the first ball of the final over for the loss of four wickets.

Andrew Thomas and Ware – playing his first game of the season – combined for a terrific second-wicket partnership of 66 before Thomas was out for 31.

Rob Jamieson and Ware put on 114, Jamieson ending up 54 not out. Ware’s 94 included 15 fours.

The win puts Horley second in Challenge Cup Group 20 and this week they play bottom-placed Warlingham.

Eagles play their last game of the campaign at Ifield Green on Saturday.

Eagles batted first and were in trouble at 54-6 but managed to recover to a total of 145 all out, thanks mainly to Safaur Rehan (29) and a brilliant knock of 33 from new proud dad Dipa.

Ram’s response never got going thanks to Shanaz Rehman, who took 6-16 off his six overs helped bowl out the opposition for 75.

Slinfold 2nd v Crawley Eagles 3rd

Eagles thirds lost by six wickets at Slinfold, despite a good knock of 52 from Rashid Mehmood in a total of 130, which the opposition reached in 30 overs.

* This season, a large number of children have missed out on cricket, coaching and general sports because of the pandemic.

Crawley Eagles CC are running a free coaching camp tomorrow (Aug 27) from 10am to 3pm for boys and girls from the ages of nine to 18. Youngsters can go along any time for as long as they wish.
