Horley 127-3 (20 overs) Oxted and Limpsfield 118-3
Horley under-13s moved to the top of the East Surrey Colts league table after beating Oxted in a very entertaining game of cricket.
Horley were put into bat first and scored 127 for the loss of three wickets.
A total of 14 fours and one six were shared around batters Aryan Patel, Christian Kelly, Riley Sired Cook, Kaine Stephen and Zac Collins.
Oxted had to chase a revised target of 128 from 20 overs and a good all-round fielding performance restricted them to a score of 118 for three.
All the wickets were taken by Oliver Sturt.
This win puts Horley top of the table and an exciting end to the season awaits.
Capel 299-6 (20 overs)
Horley 259-6 (20 overs)
Horley under-10s put Capel in but a below-par bowling performance, featuring too many wides and byes, enabled the hosts to run up a very big total of 299.
Hugo Hobbs took two of the six wickets and Ben Stewart, Evan Grimwood, Joe English and Joseph Barton one each, while Henry Grimwood and Stewart both held on to tricky catches in the outfield.
Horley batted well in reply, especially man of the match Hobbs, who hit an entertaining 25 off 18 balls including a big six and four boundary fours.
His partner Erin Gooch joined in with a lovely straight drive for four and Stewart was the second highest scorer with 11 runs.
Horley fell 40 runs short of Capel’s total but only scored one less off the bat, underlining the fact that extras were a huge issue.
The artificial wicket may have been a factor for a Horley team used to playing on grass, but they took the defeat in the right spirit.
