The Hundred: Sussex stars will be in thick of action

As expected, power-hitting batsman Luke Wright is one of the 57 newly retained players. The Sussex skipper will make the journey north to play for the Trent Rockets.

The Sussex bowling quartet of Chris Jordan, Jofra Archer, Tymal Mills and George Garton will all be playing for Southern Brave after being retained earlier this year.

Sussex's Phil Salt (Manchester Originals) and Rashid Khan (Trent Rockets) will also be involved in the 100-ball-a-side competition.

The retention window for the men’s competition is now closed, with the remaining spots across the eight teams filled in the men's players draft, which will take place on 23 February. It is likely that a few more Sussex players will be picked up - including Ollie Robinson.

Speaking earlier this week, James Kirtley, the Sussex T20 head coach, praised Robinson, who is currently part of the England Test set-up for tours of Sri Lanka and India. "It will be feasible that Ollie Robinson will get taken with the draft...he is too good a bowler", Kirtley outlined. "He is someone that can bowl in all three phases [in the shorter formats]."

This summer, The Hundred will run simultaneously alongside the men's domestic 50-over competition, which means Sussex, like every county, will be without some key players. "We don't get a choice," Kirtley explains. "So we will inevitably use that competition to develop our future in one-day cricket."

In the women's competition, Sussex's Freya Davis will play for the London Spirit, Linsey Smith heads to the Northern Superchargers and Nancy Harman makes her way to the Trent Rockets.

They join a host of previously retained Sussex players including Danni Wyatt and Paige Schofield, who will both play for the Southern Brave.
