Ifield continued their excellent second half of the season with a resounding eight-wicket win over promotion-chasing Lindfield.

Half centuries from Guru Kedarnath and Jack Groves and five wickets for Jigar Parekh won them the match.

Skipper Jack Groves won the toss and opted to bowl first on a soft wicket and Daniel Groves picked up both openers with only 29 on the board.

Dutch international Max O’Dowd and Shane Wilson-Yelverton put on 48 for the 3rd wicket before Joe Smith caught O’Dowd at short leg off Kedarnath’ s bowling for 30.

The dangerous Hayden James was bowled by Kedarnath for 12 and this was then quickly followed by two wickets for Parekh to leave Lindfield at 107 for 6.

Jake Brookes hit a few big blows in his 38 but once he was bowled by Parekh there was little other resistance and the Linfdield innings finished on 158 all out with five wickets for Parekh, three for Kedarnath and two for Groves.

Joe Smith was out early in the Ifield response but Kedarnath and opener Joe Cooke batted solidly and took the score to 57 before Cooke was brilliantly caught by James for 25.

Jack Groves joined Kedarnath and like the previous week’s successful run chase against Crowhurst they closed in on the target fairly comfortably.

The only real threat was the weather and with rain in the air they accelerated the scoring and in so doing both batsmen reached their fifties and then for the second week running Groves secured victory with a big six.

Kedarnath finished on 62 and Groves 59 in an excellent unbeaten third wicket stand of 106 runs.

Ifield’s final league game of the season is at home to neighbours Three Bridges.
