Sharks captain Wright said: “Jason showed tonight why he is playing for England. It was an outstanding innings and when he gets on a roll like that he’s very difficult to stop. On reflection, we have them too many hittable balls but I still thought it was a good effort by us to get 180, which we felt was the par score on that wicket, considering we lost two wickets in the first two overs.

“We’re disappointed but we’re not going to get too down about. We’ll dust ourselves down and go again.”

Roy said: “I wanted to give myself a bit more time, try and rotate the strike more and try not to face too many dot balls, which is something I have been working on.

“So to get a hundred and for us to win the game against a very good side was very special.

“The partnership I had with Kumar (Sangakkara) kept us ticking over and then Dwayne (Bravo) came in and played as Dwayne does - which is hitting the ball out of the park!

“Our bowlers were outstanding on a good wicket. Getting wickets early and then two in the same over, when they had a partnership going, is like gold dust in T20.

“We lost our first game against Glamorgan and I’m so proud of how we responded tonight.”
