Sussex heading for a draw
Tim Ambrose became the sixth century-maker of the match as Warwickshire and Sussex meandered towards a draw on the final day of their LV=County Championship stalemate at Edgbaston.
At the end of a morning session trimmed of nine overs by an unexpected rain shower, Warwickshrie were 443 for five with Ambrose was on 105 (192 balls, 15 fours) and Laurie Evans 137 (276 balls, 19 fours).
The pair have so far added 236, breaking the county’s previous sixth-wicket record - the 226 set by Ambrose with Heath Streak against Worcestershire at Worcester in 2007.
When Warwickshire resumed this morning on 367 for five, Ambrose needed another 35 to complete a ton against his former team. He collected them with ease, posting 100 from 185 balls with 15 fours against a Sussex attack whose seamers and spinners alike have been utterly blunted by the slow pitch.
It says everything about the surface that the match will enter its penultimate session with its second innings still far from over.
