Sussex League round up: Wins for Horsham, Roffey, Preston Nomads and East Grinstead

Horsham are the early frontrunners in the Premier League and the only side on maximum points after two rounds of matches having eased to victory at home to Hastings.

Former Somerset leg spinner Michael Munday took 6-45 as Hastings were bowled out for 190 having won the toss and elected to bat. Top scorer for the visitors was Adam Maharaj-Newman with 52.

In reply John Burroughs opened with 57 before Craig Gallagher struck a breezy 68 not out, and helped by Tom Johnson (35 not out), saw Horsham home to another 30-points win.

Roffey also enjoyed a commanding victory down at Brighton & Hove, set up by a strong batting performance and then rammed home by a seven-wicket haul from overseas player Kuldeep Rawat.

Roffey, electing to bat, made 235-8 from their 58 overs, Rohit Jagota top scorer with 72 runs, while Matt Davies hit an unbeaten 51 down the order.

In reply Indian seamer Rawat claimed marvellous figures of 7-54 as the hosts were knocked off for 147.

East Grinstead claimed a victory by 61 runs down at Cuckfield.

Batting first East Grinstead were all out for 199, Ollie Graham hitting an unbeaten 64 while with the ball, Chris Taylor grabbed a five wicket haul.

That score proved enough for victory as Cuckfield were bowled out for 138, despite Chris Taylor’s best efforts (52 not out). Ian Sturmer took 5-34 and Sam Jewiss 3-10.

Defending champions Preston Nomads beat newly promoted Bexhill on home soil.

Carl Simon ran riot taking 7-44 as the visitors were skittled out for 86.

The hosts then struggled to the lowly total, losing eight wickets as they got there in 23.5 overs.

Dean Crawford took 6-33 for Bexhill.

The only other game in the top flight of the Sussex League was at the Saffrons, where Eastbourne drew with Three Bridges.

Batting first Eastbourne made 200-9, opener Ben Speake with the baulk of the runs, hitting 93.

David Twine took 5-50 for Bexhill, who with the bat got to 177-9 from their 52 overs, Callum Jackson with 65.
