SUSSEX PREMIER LEAGUE ROUND-UP: Horsham go third after beating Three Bridges

Preston Nomads were struggling a little at Chichester with five wickets down, but skipper Kashif Ibrahim (77 not out) and Jeremy Green (51 not out) took them to 259 for 5 declared.

The in form Carl Simon then proved a match winner with the ball as he took 5 for 51 to send the home side tumbling to 123 all out, top scorer was Geoff Stevens who made 37.

Hastings eventually enjoyed a six wicket home win against East Grinstead but it could have been much easier as the visitors were, at one time, 81 for 8 but Matt Sugg with 156 was helped in a ninth wicket stand of 123 with youngster Alex Mason to take their side to 229 all out.

Sugg made his 156 from just 118 balls as Josh Poysden took 4 for 73.

Adam Maharaj-Newman and Harry Finch each hit 89 to take the home side to victory at 230 for 4 from 61 overs.

Three Bridges decided to bat first at Horsham and owed much to skipper Danny Alderman (82) for their total of 193 all out as Devon Endersby took 5 for 51 and teenage New Zealander Matt Henry grabbed 3 for 33.

And Horsham had little difficulty in chasing down their target to reach 197 for 3 from 37 overs as Owain Jones hit 72, Endersby made 37 not out and James Johnson 35.

Newly promoted Pulborough struggled at Eastbourne where they were dismissed for just 66.

Eastbourne included two former England pace bowlers in James Kirtley and Ed Giddins, but it was young Josh Presland who did the damage, he took 7 for 15.

Brad Smith made 24 as Eastbourne reached 67 for 5, Rohit Jagota taking 2 for 10.

The highest scoring match of the day took place at Roffey where there were two centuries in the drawn game with Brighton and Hove.

Roffey saw Josh Fleming hit 152 from 159 balls and Chris Plaister 78 in a total of 290 for 4 declared, Matt Wood taking 2 for 66.

Brighton were behind the clock and lost three early wickets but Tim Jarvis cracked 122 from 136 balls and with Matt Green making 45 and Craig Young 28 they came desperately close to a dramatic win at 281 for 9, Andrew McGorian taking 4 for 81 and Luke Barnard 3 for 89.

In Division Two, four clubs are separated by just four points with Worthing leading the way ahead of Cuckfield, Haywards Heath and St.James’s with all of these clubs having won two of their three games to date.

Worthing rattled up 235 for 4 declared at Lewes Priory with Benn Chambers making 71 not out, skipper Michael Gould 63 and Alex Reid 56.

The home side were then dismissed for 169 as Andy Lutwyche took 3 for 48 and Challen grabbed 4 for 54, top scorer for Lewes was skipper Imran Khan with 60, Adam Scott made 34.

Haywards Heath won their local derby at Cuckfield after being put in by the home side in the most exciting game of the day.

Sixteen-year-old Ollie Harris made 64 to help Haywards Heath to 176 all out as Nick Patterson took 4 for 54 and there were two wickets each for Josh Hayward and Neil Fairall.

Tom Mole virtually carried the home side’s innings on his own in making 113 not out as they were dismissed for 173 to give Haywards Heath a win by just three runs, with young Aussie left-arm spinner Matt Junk taking 5 for 48 and Chris Parsons 3 for 17.

St.James’s enjoyed a comfortable seven wicket win at home to Stirlands who they put in and bowled out for just 120 with skipper Bradley Hatchett taking 8 for 26, Tim Robinson with 45 was top scorer for the visitors.

Raza Ali than made 66 and Tahab Mahmood 51 to take St.James’s to 126 for 3.

Bexhill batted first at Glynde and made 233 for 7 declared with 75 from Jack Richardson. In reply Glynde drew the game at 220 for 8 with 65 not out from Stuart Mouland, Chris Topp took 4 for 44.

There was also a draw at Goring after Ifield had made 231 all out batting first, Greg Barton hitting 58.

In reply Goring held on at 202 for 9 as Ifield skipper Russell Jacob took 6 for 60.

Sidley are the new leaders of Division 3 East after they saw off Crawley by six wickets.

Inserting the visitors, they managed to bowl them out for 181.

Paul Swanell took the bowling honours with 5-47, Chris Deeprose 3-17. Eric Dewell top scored for Crawley with 79 not out; Sol Shah added 45.

Swanell then scored 47 along with 41 from Jon Haffenden in Sidley’s innings Previous leaders Crowhurst Park fell to a first defeat by 99 runs at Burgess Hill.

Hill amassed 271-6 with Tom Trowbridge 98 and Shaun Kevern 82 sharing a match winning partnership of 159. Crowhurst Park could only reach 172 in reply as Hugh Warmisham bagged 4-36.

Hellingly eventually beat Uckfield Anderida at Horsebridge although Anderida posted a challenging 206.

Luke Forster top scored with 40 but they were restricted by 6-50 from Adam Devlin.

Scott Pearce hit 98 and Paul McDonald 67 to get the home team through by four wickets though Scott Strangio took 4-42 for Uckfield.

A dramatic collapse by Ansty meant that Keymer & Hassocks took the spoils between the two bottom clubs to leave Ansty at the foot of the table.

Keymer’s 165-8 did not look like enough but Ansty lost their last seven wickets for just 14 runs to fall short at 155.

John Price top scored for Keymer with 53, Laurence Hannam contributing 33 not out while Sam Palser countered with 5-30 off 11 overs.

Chris Barnes led Ansty’s reply with 56 and Leo Anderson 42 but Ansty’s demise was mainly due to Andy Westgate 5-51 off 19.2 aided by Mike Poole’s 4-58.

Westgate has now already taken 17 wickets in three league games this season.

In the other game Seaford made the running with 210-9 as Jamie Goddard hit 76 and Chris Stanyard 68. Scott Pearce took 5-47 and Brett Silvey 4-53.

Despite 41 not out from Kevin Chamberlain Lindfield limped to 109-6 from 47 overs as the match was drawn.

In the West division, Middleton lead the table by two points from Findon with Bognor Regis a further three behind. All three won on Saturday.

Middleton were sent into bat by Billingshurst and reached 190-6 in their 53 overs with Sean Rebbits making 56 and Brandon Hanley 55 not out.

Jamie Thompson took 5-42 in Billingshurst’s innings as they fell short at 140 from 27.4 overs faced.

Rob Willway put in a fine all round performance as Bognor overcame Steyning by seven wickets.

Firstly he took 5-44 in Steyning’s innings of 224-7 declared for whom Gary Hunt made 65, then his unbeaten 82 led the home side to victory assisted by 80 from Michael Spaseski.

Findon enjoyed a comfortable 8 wicket win at home to Littlehampton with James Iago taking the bowling honours with 6–41. Jack Metters hit 73 not out and Bradley Bridson 51 in Findon’s innings.

Slinfold bowled Arundel out for 161 having put them in and though Justin Murray made 41 they were pegged back by Guy Thorne taking 6-48 from 18 overs and Charlie Haire’s 3-48 from 15.

Haire then was not out with 46 and 39 from Steve Haines finished the game off as Slinfold won for the first time this season, by 5 wickets.

Henfield also claimed a season’s first win as their 185 proved far too many for Pagham who were bowled out for just 118.
