Eldridge strike clinches fine win

SIDLEY claimed the prize scalp of Horsham YMCA with a 1-0 win at Gorings Mead on Saturday.

United hadn't played since before Christmas but showed few signs of ring-rust in sealing a battling win over the second-placed side in Sussex Division One.

Joint manager Peter Heritage said: "It was a good result. We rode our luck a little bit at times but defensively we did well."

Sidley made the perfect start, opening the scoring within 60 seconds when Jason Finch knocked the ball to Russell Eldridge who fired home from 25 yards.

Dave Carey had a couple of half chances for the visitors, while Wes Tate and Shae Spreafico also enjoyed sights of goal. The hosts had their moments too but young keeper Matt Shoesmith dealt with everything that was thrown in his direction.
