Farrell cracks four as Rooks run riot

Sussex Senior Cup 2nd RoundLewes 8 Pagham 1ARUNDEL manager Vic Short will be licking his lips after Lee Farrell scored four goals as the Conference South Rooks thrashed their County League Two visitors at The Dripping Pan on Wednesday.

Farrell, who is going on loan to Mill Road shortly, showed his strength and power as he ripped through the Arundel defence, and he might have doubled his tally.

Rooks manager Steve King fielded a strong line-up against Arundel, who were on the back foot right from the opening whistle.

The Mullets, who are in a transitional stage after last season's relegation, showed plenty of spirit but were several yards short on pace and paid a heavy price.

Lewes went ahead in the third minute when Dean Brennan's through ball split the Pagham defence and Farrell ran through to fire into the corner.

Farrell then missed a sitter in front of goal before Jean-Michel Sigere made it 2-0 on 12 minutes as a long punt from the back saw him race unmarked to shoot low past Pagham goalkeeper Scott Hampton.

At that stage it looked like being a cricket score but Pagham settled and contributed to an entertaining match for the crowd of 174.

The Rooks went three up on 20 minutes when Farrell sidefooted home Owen Price's fine cross from the right.

Pagham then had their moment of glory when Dave Speller went to ground and they were awarded a penalty. Brett Forden converted.

It was 4-1 on 47 minutes as Farrell fired his third in-off the keeper from Mo Harkin's cross.

Sigere was on the scoresheet again on the hour when his strong run outstripped the defence and he shot into the corner.

Paul Kennett made it six ten minutes later from Harkin's cross, while Karl Beckford grabbed the seventh near the end.

It was left to Farrell to net the eighth courtesy of a deflection after he collected Kirk Watts's cross.
