Felbridge Bowls Club beat Balcombe and Popes Mead

Felbridge Bowling Club was a hive of activity last week with the usual round of league games, three friendly matches, a Sussex Ladies Invitational competition and a Club Triples tournament.

In the Nicholas Soames Australian Pairs match against Balcombe, Felbridge won by 8-2.

The Mid Sussex League team beat Popes Mead by the same score to raise hopes of winning the league with two matches to go. The John Spriggs League team lost at home to Uckfield by 2-8.

In the friendlies the match away to Caterham saw Gary Robson make his debut as the team won by 80-74.

The home fixture against Buxted Park was abandoned after 5 ends due to torrential rain. Saturday’s match away to Crowborough Wolfe resulted in a win for Felbridge by 91-71.

The Sussex Ladies Invitational hosted 12 Triples teams and a very competitive tournament saw Balcombe take the trophy with Eastbourne as the runners up.

The club’s own Triples tournament consisted of eight teams of club members playing three matches each of seven ends.

The two teams progressing to Club finals day on September 4 were: Peter Gardner (skip) Roy Merritt and Sally Knight who will play Colin Brewer (skip) Steve Crockford (pictured making his tournament debut, above left) and Brian Farley.
