FOOTBALL: Albion star Andrew Whing's weekly column (December 25)

WE were all absolutely gutted to concede so late on at Tranmere on Saturday.

I felt we came out the traps in the second half and played very well.

But it's just our luck at the moment to be robbed right at the death.

Especially after hitting the post and having a penalty shout turned down.

I thought that we had played well, looked comfortable, and were unlikely to concede.

If anything, I thought we were going to get a win.

When the goal went in, I looked around and you could see it drain right out of all the lads. It was soul-destroying.

As we have conceded a few goals late on recently, there's been talk of a lack of fitness, but this isn't the case.

Over the past few weeks, we have worked very hard on our fitness. And I personally, as do a lot of the lads, think it is the fittest we have been in a long time.

The Christmas period is always a busy time, but I enjoy playing the matches.

Of course, it would be nice to spend some time with the family but with training of Christmas Day, and a match on Boxing Day, it's a bit tough.

It would be nice to have a bit of a break after Boxing Day but with a game on the Sunday, the fixtures come thick and fast, which is what we need to get a few results together.

Especially as both games are crunch matches and ones we need to get results in.

n It was the Seagulls Christmas party on Monday and there was a great turnout from players and fans alike.

Firstly, the club visited the Brighton and Hove Children's Hospital to give out goodies and sign autographs.

Then we were in Burgess Hill for a do with the fans. There were games and all sorts going on, which was great fun.
