FOOTBALL: Crawley Town set to sign Salisbury star Tubbs

SALISBURY City striker Matt Tubbs is on the verge of signing for Crawley Town, having turned down an offer to move from the double-relegated club to York City.

York manager Martin Foyle said in the York Press that he had lost out in a bid to secure Tubbs' signature and that Crawley had offered Tubbs 35,000 plus a lucrative deal to come to Sussex.

Crawley assistant manager Paul Raynor said yesterday (Tuesday): "Tubbs has been a target of ours for years. His record is phenomenal.

"Discussions are on-going with Matt and I am confident we can complete the deal in the next 24 hours."

Tubbs scored 21 goals in 28 appearances in all competitions last season for stuggling Salisbury, who rejected an approach by Evans last season and in February gave him a two-year contract extension.

In total the 25-year-old former Bolton Wanderers apprentice has scored a remarkable 59 goals in 146 appearances mostly for Salisbury.
