FOOTBALL: Selsey send Arundel packing

AFTER smashing eight goals past Hailsham on Saturday, Arundel failed to find the net at Selsey on Tuesday evening and exited the RUR Cup, 2-0.

Mullets assistant-manager Simon Butler said: "We had most of the possession, but just didn't have the rub of the green.

"It's a shame we're out, because our side of the draw wasn't too bad. But, it was just one of those games, when Selsey had two chances and scored two goals."

Selsey went ahead after just 10 minutes. Scott Hinshelwood got on the end of a free kick, although Arundel felt the ball went in off his arm.

Former Wick keeper, Steve Phillips, denied Mullets an equaliser on 20 minutes when he turned away Howard Neigh-bour's fierce shot.

Gary Norgate then had an effort cleared off the line, four minutes later, but Mullets did not threaten an equaliser again before half-time.

After the break, Arundel went close to drawing level three times.

Norgate's lob over Phillips on 50 minutes hit the bar, Chris Hibberd's 52nd-minute free kick went just wide. And then Stuart Hack's close-range shot was blocked on the line by Selsey's Sonny Dobbs' face.

Mullets continued to push for the equaliser but Selsey caught them on the break with a minute to go to make it 2-0. Rob Brown headed home the clincher at the near post, and Selsey will now host Peacehaven or Crawley Down in the third round.

ARUNDEL: Kason; L.Walker, Hack, D.Walker, Axell; Biggs, Mike Huckett, Grove, Hibberd; Neighbour, Norgate. Subs: S.Towers (Neighbour 70), Wimbleton, Duncan.
