The deal to bring the out of contract former Ipswich player back to the Broadfield on a permanent basis is all but finalised, but won’t be officially completed until after the weekend, according to Observer sources close to the club.

The 29-year-old midfielder will be well-known to Reds fans after he enjoyed a highly successful three-month loan spell at the club during the 2011/2012 season.

Former boss Steve Evans brought him in as an emergency loan in September of that season and he soon endeared himself to the Crawley fans with three goals in 13 appearances, including a debut goal against Bradford City.

Evans tried to sign him permanently but the two clubs couldn’t afford a fee.

But with the former Stevenage Borough and Luton player having been released by Ipswich last month despite him making 30 appearances for the Tractor Boys in the Championship, Reds boss Barker has swooped as he looks to strengthen his squad on the back of last season’s tenth place finish in League One.
