Another season on road ahead for Crawley Town - but when will fans follow them?

The League Two season came to an end with the play-off final between Exeter City and Northampton which Cobblers won to earn promotion to League One.

We are still no nearer finding out the fixtures for the new season as a decision has to be made as to whether Macclesfield will be relegated instead of Stevenage, who finished bottom of the league.

The Macclesfield situation is down to the EFL asking for a review of the final two-point deduction – they are saying it should have been increased, so who knows what will happen?

The final promotion place was decided on Sunday as Notts County lost to Harrogate in the play-off final at Wembley, so Crawley have another four-hour trip to Yorkshire!

We are also now aware that the fixtures are due to start on September 12, but whether supporters will be allowed in restricted numbers to watch is not yet been confirmed.

The likely date for this to happen at present seems like one in October.

Clubs like Crawley cannot survive on no support ers coming through the turnstiles so the sooner we can get back watching the better it will be for everyone.

The club have some local friendlies arranged but dates have to be finalised, and it does not like supporters will be allowed to watch these games against non-league teams.

The next decision waiting for us is a date that we can start organising the away travel for supporters – to be honest we don’t expect that to be until the start of next year, with half the season already completed.

To run coaches will be difficult especially having to keep social distancing. Masks can be worn, and we can keep records of those who travel for track and trace purposes, but we have problems with stops en route to the games – not an easy solution to resolve.

All we can do is to wait and see what the protocols are going to be and abide by them. It affects all supporters who travel watching their own team.

Watching your team on TV is okay but it’s not the same.

Let’s hope we can get back to normal as soon as possible.
