Another setback for United

There was more disappointment for Hastings United last night (Monday) as they lost 2-1 at Wealdstone.

It was United’s third defeat in the space of five days and the sixth loss in as many matches for new manager Jason Hopkinson, although they did show signs of improvement during the second half.

Richard Jolly gave Wealdstone a fourth minute lead and Peter Dean doubled their advantage in the 38th minute. Josh Millwood pulled one back in the 84th minute, but an equaliser remained elusive.

United remain in the Ryman Football League Premier Division relegation zone and could even go into the weekend’s game against Canvey Islan bottom of the pile if results elsewhere go against them.

Hastings: Chalmers-Stevens, Manning, Storrie, Olorunda, Jirbandey, Millwood, Hall, Davisson, Ray, Beautyman, Eldridge. Subs: Logan, Taiwo, Sutton.

A full report will appear in Friday’s Hastings Observer.

Sidley United, meanwhile, will visit Sussex County League title hopefuls Crawley Down in a Sussex RUR Charity Cup quarter-final tonight (Tuesday).

The Blues expect to welcome back Matt Dadswell, Andy Hales, Terry Payne and Danny Spice from the side which lost 2-0 at home to Selsey in the league on Saturday, but Kevin Bird is rated 50-50 and Nick Whiteman is struggling.
