Brighton and Leeds United installed as outsiders to sign £100k-a-week England goalkeeper - but how likely is a deal?

Brighton & Hove Albion have been installed as outsiders to sign Manchester United and England international goalkeeper Dean Henderson.

Following two successful seasons on loan at Sheffield United, Henderson signed a new five-year contract with United worth in excess of £100,000-a-week in the summer.

However, the 23-year-old stopper has been unable to permanently unseat David De Gea as the Red Devils’ first choice, with the Spaniard starting against Liverpool last Sunday.

That could mean Henderson may head out on loan again, but that seems unlikely given Sergio Romero's rumoured impending Old Trafford departure.

Despite this, Paddy Power are still offering odds on Henderson leaving Manchester before February 2.

Brighton are priced at 22/1 with Sheffield United favourites at 21/10.

West Brom (5/1), Newcastle United (15/2), Leeds United (11/1), Crystal Palace (14/1), Southampton (18/1) and Fulham (33/1) round off the betting.

Brighton goalkeeper Maty Ryan has been told he can leave the club in the January transfer window after being dropped by Graham Potter.

The 28-year-old was a regular starter in Potter's team until being axed for last month's goalless draw at Fulham.

If Ryan does indeed leave, Brighton will need cover for current first-choice Robert Sanchez.

That saying, the chances of the Seagulls striking loan agreement or permanent deal for Henderson feels highly unlikely.

Especially when taking into account the cost and lack of options his departure would leave Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with.
