Brotherton brings Three Bridges last-minute winner

A goal two minutes into the three added by the referee provided an unexpected winner for Bridges in a game where both sides wasted chances from the penalty spot.

The game had the worst possible start for the visitors as Charlie Samuels sidestepped two defenders to volley Molesey in front after just three minutes. And after six minutes Bridges were fortunate not to be two down when Staff Palmer’s header was ruled out for a foul on Kieron Thorp.

But after ten minutes Bridges were level after Jamie Brotherton had two efforts blocked before Hakeem Adelakun lashed home the loose ball. And after 24 minutes Brotherton burst into the box only to be brought down by Luke Elliott, but Adelakun then dragged the spot kick wide as keeper Liam Allen dived in the opposite direction!

And on the stroke of half-time it was Molesey’s turn to waste a chance from the penalty spot. Sammy MacVicar’s header back towards Thorpe fell short and Reus Stanislaus pounced only to be felled by Jamie Crellin.

Palmer stepped up to take the spot kick but Thorpe was equal to it with a superb save.

Thorpe and Crellin, along with a battling Ben Godfrey in midfield, continued to have magnificent games as Molesey tried to step up their game, Rob Sheridan firing wide afterThorpe closed him down quickly.

But Bridges were making plenty of dangerous attacks of their own, one involving MacVicar, Matt Whitehead and Tony Garrod before Adelakun fired just wide of the far post.

Brotherton hit wide from an excellent cross by MacVicar, Thorp held onto a snapshot by Palmer and Garrod shot horribly wide from Brotherton’s cross.

It looked as though Bridges were going to regret some late wasted chances though.

Callum Donaghey shot wide after Garrod laid back John Lansdale’s deep cross, whilst Brotherton had one touch too many as he looked to dribble through.

But at the last gasp Adelakun found Garrod on the edge of the area and he slipped the perfect ball into the path of Brotherton, who stabbed past Allen to snatch the three points.
