City's nightmare season continues at Arundel

CHICHESTER'S nightmare season continued with a 2-1 defeat at Arundel on Boxing Day in division one of the Sussex League, making it eight losses in a row for the basement side.

Boss Adie Girdler stuck to the threats he’d made after the recent Redhill thrashing by bringing new boys Richard Plumbley and Sam Godfrey into the line-up.

Arundel went ahead on 21 minutes through Gary Norgate and Chichester faced an uphill task when Brad Grant was shown a second yellow card 15 minutes later.

Norgate claimed another goal immediately after the break, but for the remainder of the contest Chichester battled on with determination.

Godfrey pulled one back from the penalty spot on 56 minutes, although the Mullets were always going to hold on to win with their numerical advantage.

“It wasn’t the best game of football to be involved in, to be honest,” said two-goal former Chichester player Norgate.

“It was a typical-scrappy derby that neither team stamped their mark on, but we got the three points which is the main thing, considering our current league position.”
