Crawley boss Yates rues missed chances

Crawley Town manager Mark Yates rued their poor finishing.

Gavin Tomlin twice went close in the opening exchanges against Carlisle United.

Lee Barnard and Lyle Della-Verde also missed the target from good positions.

Yates said: “We had three or four good chances, Jack’s (Rose) made a couple of good saves, first half.

“But when you miss chances and goals are a bit hard to come by at the moment for the group so you put pressure on yourself to keep a clean sheet.

“I thought they were great in the first half, the group, really good. I asked them to go out with the same intesity and I thought they did.

“I thought we had a 15-minute spell where we just dropped off a bit, but we kept pressing, we kept playing.”

Yates revealed that players are feeling the effects of playing an exhausting season with a small squad.

He said: “I think the season has caught up with a few - I think the lack of numbers that we’ve had, the lack of quality at times has been typified in this last run of games.”
