But the Lions opened their account when full-back Ruben French’s corner struck the inside of the far post and rolled in.
Six minutes before half-time the Anvil backline was breached yet again with Lloyd Rowlett slamming the loose ball home for 2-0.
For the second half the Lions set off as they had finished the first with Howard Neighbour causing Greaves to block his shot.
Just after the same player had another shot tipped over, come 52 and another French free-kick had to be hacked away as the Lions continued to press forward.
On the hour Anvil subs Jeff Mahadoo and Ryan Taylor replaced Andy Goodwin and the lively Steers to boost the attacking options, with Taylor getting in a fierce cross across the Lions’ goalmouth.
For the Lions always eager to add to the score, with French’s corners and free-kicks keeping the Anvils’ defence busy, and eventually on 80 minutes Pagham finally broke through when another French corner was powerfully headed home by Neighbour to seal victory.
