Crawley Down Gatwick 4 Selsey 1

The Anvils remained well in command with the back-four winning most things in the air, plus skipper Blair Cooney catching the eye with some lung bursting runs down the right flank.”

Anvils carried on their good form this season with a relative easy three points at home to what was a battling Selsey side.

Crawley Down Gatwick went in front on 13 minutes when Ben Brooker set up Lee Thomas to nod home their opening goal.

And they didn’t have to wait long for the second when a cross from Harry Lowe found Thomas who in turn found Brooker to drive home number two.

Play continued to be mostly in the Selsey half but with no further addition to the score.

With the Anvils kicking down toward the Kop End, it wasn’t long before the third goal arrived when from a Lowe corner the ball hit the bar and dropped onto the head of Thomas to nod home.

The visitors were under the cosh for most of the game had the odd sortie through Ben Mepham heading over, followed by Tony Lampriere testing Anvils’ keeper Andy Greaves.

But the Anvils remained well in command with the back-four winning most things in the air, plus skipper Blair Cooney catching the eye with some lung bursting runs down the right flank.

Down attacked again on 65 minutes when Oli Leslie went on a charge down the same flank and crossed for Brooker to roll the ball home for number four.

The last 15 minutes saw Selsey come more into the game with Mepham finally getting the better of the Anvil defence to slide home Selsey’s consolation.

Crawley Down Gatwick: Andy Greaves, Blair Cooney, Hass Shurmahi (James Lovett), Tom Agate (Mike Spence), Steve Dixon, James Day, Harry Lowe, Lee Thomas, Ben Brooker, Oli Leslie, Luke Trotter (Myles Pitt)
