Maggs returned to the Anvils in March but was unable to save the club from relegation.

He has now decided he does not want to manage in the County League.

Chairman Brian Suckling said: “John is not able to carry on with the financial side of the package following the step back. The club can understand that with where John has managed for 40 years.

“The club must not stretch itself beyond its means but we believe the budget we have set is very competitive for the level we will be playing at.

“John will always be welcome here. We are grateful that he brought a degree of control to the situation, minimising the margin of defeats.”
