John Yems says the idea of regionalisation of leagues makes sense – but also believes if you have made it to the football league, you deserve to be there.

Ever since lockdown, there has been speculation that divisions from League One down could be regionalised.

When football returns there could be restrictions on travelling and staying in hotels which could incur massive costs for smaller professional clubs such as Crawley Town.

Yems said: “Your brain tells you it makes sense if you have teams like Aldershot, Woking, Dagenham, Crawley – and you could name some others – in and around the London area in the same division. But when all is said and done you work hard enough to get into the Football League, it’s how it should be.

“As long as the Football League look after you and treat you like a Football League club, that’s the important thing.

“You are a professional football club, you have got a lot of travelling, that’s how it is

“But we were having a laugh the other day about how are we going to get to games.

“You can’t get on a coach, unless you have loads of money and can afford two coaches. Hotels, where you going to stay?

“All these things they are looking at, but in the whole scheme of things, our lads are lucky they are at a football club and not working or own a pub or something because there are a lot of people worse off than us at the minute.”

There is still no date yet for when training will start and when the next League Two season will begin.

Yems said: “You can’t plan anything.

“When you have players you want to look at or get someone in for training, you just can’t do it.

“But looking at the last couple of months you have just got to count your blessings you have got somewhere to go to work.”

And Yems sai d he ‘couldn’t give a monkeys’ about the Premier League returning this week. He said: “I just hope the Premier League has a look over their shoulder and look at the leagues not coming back and help those lower clubs. It’s all about money at the top end anyway.”
