Crawley Town defender Josh Yorwerth selected for Wales U21s squad

Crawley Town defender Josh Yorwerth has been selected for the Wales under-21s squad to play in qualifying matches for the 2017 European U21 Championship.

The loanee from Ipswich Town will be part of manager Geraint Williams’ squad for away games against Bulgaria and Romania on March 25 and March 29.

Yorwerth, 21, is a product of the Cardiff City Aacdemy and has previously made 17 appearances for Wales at U17s, U19s and U21 level.

He has made 24 appearances for the Reds this campaign and is expected to remain at the club until the end of the season.

Wales go into the fixtures undefeated as group leaders gaving already beaten Bulgaria 3-1 in Cardiff 12 months ago.

Further victories over Luxembourg and Armenia followed in 2015, and the focus for Williams’ young team will now be to emulate the fortunes of the senior side and reach the finals that will be held in Poland next year.

Wales are currently one point ahead of second-place Denmark, and while the Danes have a game in hand ahead of the latest round of qualifiers.

It means Josh will be missing for Reds’ Easter fixtures against York City on Good Friday and Exeter City on Easter Monday.
