Head coach Dermot Drummy says assistant Matt Gray will be working this week on set-plays and organisation.

In their final home pre-season friendly with Millwall on Saturday, they gifted a couple of late goals as Reds rung the changes in the second half and looked suspect from set-pieces.

That mainly came from so many substitutions in a short space of time, with the starting XI having performed well, but Drummy says being set up tactically is ‘vital.’

While he is pleased to hear positive murmuring of his side’s style of play, he admits that counts for nothing come the start of the League Two campaign a week Saturday.

He said: “The main thing is when we get to Wycombe we have got to win. We have to start winning and then maybe getting an away draw and showing that character and organisation. The organisation off the ball first half was mainly where I wanted it. I don’t like goal-kicks where everyone stands in one square, I find that abhorrent.

“I just think we need to have a bit more guile about us to break off and play and be brave, but that will come.

“Some of the quality of the goals (was good) and also the return of Matt Harrold - he added an aerial threat and we need to improve on the set-plays. Matt Gray will improve on the quality of that.

“In training really we have just been doing fitness. In this last week now we will stop and work tactically as it is vital in this league.

“It will get you ten goals or lose you ten goals and that will mean points, so we have to make sure we are spot on on that.”
