Tom Nichols’ second half goal – the Reds’ first of the campaign – helped the hosts beat the Gas and advance to the second round.
Here’s how reporter Ashley Adamson-Edwards rated the Crawley players after tonight’s excellent win.
5. Dion Conroy - 7
The former Swindon Town man looked composed before being switched out for Johnson at half-time. He led the line well and showed his experience in playing out from the back. Photo: Crawley Town FC
6. Tony Craig - 8
He isn’t the tallest or fastest, but Craig was superb against the Gas. When Ogungbo was caught too far forward, Craig was pushed over to cover his teammate and put under immense pressure. However, his positioning allowed him to deal with most threats coming his way. Photo: Derek Martin Photography and Art
7. George Francomb - 9
The former AFC Wimbledon man displayed his quality as always for Crawley. Defensively he was strong in the tackle and showed the awareness to help the midfield build attacks without compromising the team’s shape. Photo: Cory Pickford
8. Jack Powell - 8
After 250 minutes of football, Powell’s assist to Nichols provided the first goal of the WAGMI United era. There were points when he could have weighted his passes better, but in the end his performance made the clubs’ week. Photo: Steve Bardens/Getty Images
