Crawley Town v Forest Green Rovers preview: Reds look to secure first EFL home win over Rovers

With just three games to go the League Two season is approaching its end, but the fixtures for Crawley Town certainly don’t get any easier as they face another side contesting for promotion in Forest Green Rovers.

Rovers have struggled recently, which resulted in Mark Cooper leaving the club but they are still well in the hunt for promotion, with the play-offs being their most likely root.

The play-offs were the closest Forest Green have got to reaching League One, where in the 2018-19 season they lost out in the semi-finals to Tranmere Rovers.

However, they haven’t confirmed themselves a play-off spot yet this season and still have work to do in order to ensure that they get in there.

A trip to The People’s Pension Stadium will be a tricky test for Forest Green, as Crawley defeated then leaders Cheltenham in their last game there.

However, it is Forest Green’s away form that has kept them so high in the table, with their home form letting them down.

Prior to Tuesday’s fixtures Rovers sat fourth in the away table but 12th in the home form table. Since arriving in the EFL Forest Green have always had a good away record and seem to do well on their travels.

Crawley will be looking to do something they haven’t done in the EFL, which is beat Forest Green at home.

The sides have met three times at The People’s Pension Stadium in the EFL with two of these ending in a 1-1 draw and one ending in a 2-1 win for Forest Green.

The Red Devils will know they have it in them to beat their visitors, as they did so impressively earlier in the season.

A Tom Nichols brace gave Crawley all three points in a 2-1 win at The New Lawn, in what is up there with one of Crawley’s best performances of the season.

Forest Green are a different side since that fixture though, with Mark Cooper leaving the club and Jimmy Ball in charge until the end of the season.
