Here is how Philip Richardson rated the Reds' players. Do you agree?
9. Tyler Frost - 9 - man of the match
Man of the match for me, he was a constant threat going forward. His mix of speed and skill gave him the beating of his man on countless occasions. He also showed great positional acumen to drift inside and find space. For much of the game he did really well but struggled for an end product finding three or four of his short rippling the side netting. However, he did not let this affect him as he picked out Ferry well for Crawley’s first goal. If he can improve his end product going into the season, he could have a real season to watch out for. This was shown when he came off late on as he was greeted with the standing ovation he deserved. Photo: Steve Robards
10. Ashley Nadesan - 8
In the first half he struggled to get any meaningful hold on the ball, however, in the second half he was excellent, linking up with Ashford very well. His mix of coming short and running in behind kept the defenders on their toes. When he came short, he was calm on the ball picking out the right ball and not being overly complicated. He also got up well for long balls, and although he didn’t win many balls his presence often led to Crawley winning the second ball and going on the attack. Photo: Martin Smith/UK Sports Images Ltd
11. Sam Ashford - 9
One of the main threats on the night, Gillingham couldn’t deal with with his physicality and movement. He consistently used his strength well to hold up the ball and win fouls. Despite not being the biggest, he won the ball well in the air often winning flick-ons for Nadesan, Frost and Ferry. For the goal he showed excellent positioning to drift into the box in order to give himself an easy tap in. Another player who came off to a standing ovation, he was one of the main threats against a good Gillingham side. Photo: Jamie Evans/UK Sports Images Ltd
12. James Tilley - 7
He was not on long enough to make a real impact but looked solid running forward with ball. Had a chance late on to put through a ball to Ferry or Nadesan but wasted the chance and shot instead. Photo: Jamie Evans/UK Sports Images Ltd
