Crawley Town v Morecambe preview: Can Reds continue brilliant home record against high-flying Shrimps?

The Shrimps were relegation favourites at the start of the season, but find themselves in the automatic promotion places five games into the League Two season. However, they face a Crawley side who have not lost at home in the league in ten months. John Yems has installed a brilliant home record into hid Crawley side, who at times have looked unstoppable on home soil.

The Reds come into this game without a win in two league games, with a 1-1 draw at home to Southend and a 2-0 defeat away at Cheltenham.

They’ll look to get back to winning ways this weekend and should feel confident, despite facing a high flying team at the moment. Crawley will need to get firing going forward once again as they look to have struggled going forward at times against a strong Cheltenham defence.

They’ll also need to sharpen up defensively, with Crawley conceding two cheap goals, from a long throw in and a slip from Jordan Tunnicliffe. The Red Devils need to become more solid at the back or they will risk leaking plenty of goals this season, if they don’t become more solid.

However, Crawley’s opponents for the weekend have also been poor defensively, despite being near the top of the table.

The Shrimps still have a negative goal difference and they have conceded nine goals this season with only Southend and Oldham conceding more this season. Most of these goals came in a 5-0 thumping that Morecambe got against Cambridge on the second game of the season.

Since then it has been three wins on the bounce for Morecambe, with a 2-1 win against Southend, a 1-0 win against Port Vale and a 3-2 win at Oldham last weekend. A win at Crawley would see them get their fourth win on the bounce, and could see them hit top spot.

It should be a close game with two teams who will feel confident of picking up a result going head-to-head, to keep Morecambe in the top three, and to move Crawley back into a play-off place.
