The win was a long time in the making and wasn’t looking likely when Oldham took the lead through a Danny Rowe header. But Crawley did well to turn it round with goals from Ashley Nadesan, George Francomb and Tom Nichols allowed Crawley to pick up a vital win on the road.

However, this week Crawley return to home soil where their form is generally very good under John Yems.

They’re undefeated at home in the league since Yems took charge last December. They have a very good chance of extending that run against a Southend side, who similarly to Oldham are struggling both on and off the pitch.

Financial worries and defeats on the pitch has left Southend in a poor state. They’ve started the season with three straight league defeats against Harrogate, Carlisle and Morecambe, with their only goal of the season coming in the 2-1 defeat last Saturday against Morecambe. The Shrimpers have had a leaky defence, which saw them concede four on the opening day to EFL debutants Harrogate Town.

So far Southend have conceded eight goals in League Two and scoring just one, which leaves them bottom of League Two on goal difference. With main man Stephen Humphrys leaving Southend for Rochdale, it could be down to new man Simeon Akinola to score Southend the goals to claw them away from back to back relegations.

After playing League One football last year it would be catastrophe for Southend to suffer another relegation and find themselves outside of the EFL by the end of the season. They’ll be desperately be looking to pick up their first points of the season and will look to make it difficult for Crawley in order to grab those first pounts of their season.

Confidence will be high in the Crawley camp though with back to back victories against Scunthorpe and Oldham.

They’ll see this as a great chance to make it three wins in a row and build up some fantastic momentum to push on with into the rest of the season. Nine points out of a possible 12 would be a very good start for Crawley and would be what they get should they beat Southend this Saturday.

Last week was an especially strong performance with Tom Nichols and Tarryn Allarakhia impressing for Crawley as they look to cement their place in the starting 11.

Nichols has been in great form since signing for Crawley as he has already racked up two goals. He looked to start forming a good partnership with Ashley Nadesan, as they are likely to be Crawley’s two starting strikers. If they can build a good partnership Crawley could have a very good season and finish in a strong top half position.
