Sonny Bradley admits he is ‘surprised’ be have been announced as Crawley Town’s new captain.
New signing Jon Ashton will take up the role of club captain with boss Mark Yates expecting him to play 20/30 games and assist his fellow defender in the role.
Bradley, 23, is one of Reds’ longest-serving players, having joined the club just last summer from Portsmouth, and has worn the armband during some of their pre-season games.
Yates announced his decision at this afternoon’s press conference and said: “Sonny Bradley will be captain for this season. I want him to enjoy the experience.
“I like my defenders to be captains. He has been here a while and I want him to take the mantle on and for Simon to assist him.”
Bradley added: “I didn’t expect to be captain to be fair. It was a little bit of a surprise, but it’s given me a confidence boost. I’m raring to go for Oxford now.
“It seems like six months since we have last played a game. We’ve had a good pre-season. I’m confident we will have a good season with the squad we have got.
“The main aim is for us to get three points this weekend. There’s a real togetherness. I think if we carry on this way it will be a positive season.”
Ashton signed a one-year with Crawley last month having joined from Stevenage where he also had spells of skippering the side.
